Jeep Commander Oil Filters

Jeep Commander Oil Filters: All You Need to Know

Motor oil greases the many parts of your SUV's engine. This helps the parts move the way they're supposed to. However, the oil contains both impurities and infiltrates. If they get into the engine, they build up. That can wear on the oil pump and its bearings.

Luckily, your ride has an oil filter to help prevent this result. It captures those contaminants, much like air filters, which trap dust, debris, and pollen.

Even an oil filter you can clean isn't exactly permanent, though. It can eventually degrade with age, that is, if it doesn't just clog. If that happens, it'll usually break down, and engine problems will result.

The best way to avoid them is to commit to regular oil filter replacement. Take care of it during every oil change, during every other one -- every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, or every 3 months. If you have an extended-life oil filter, though, you should change it about every 10,000 miles.

You can tell when to do that by looking for certain signs, such as:

  • Dirty, overly smoky exhaust fumes
  • A drop in oil pressure
  • Leaking oil
  • Sputtering or metallic noises coming from the engine

So, which oil filter fits your SUV? That depends on the thread and gasket sizes it requires. It's important to install one that fits your Jeep Commander properly, as putting one in that's not the right size almost always causes oil leaks. Worse yet, it can cause the filter to detach -- in most cases, that means severe and expensive engine damage.

Either way, the answer to the question: one from your OEM. Its oil filters are designed to manufacturer spec for its models, after all. You can buy one online at our auto parts store.
